Lost the key, or lost the connection?

Your car key replacement should solve the fault you have. A damaged shell, worn blade, flat remote battery and lost electronic pairing can look similar from the driver’s seat. Tell us what works and what does not. Share your vehicle make, model and year, plus whether another key still starts it. We can then discuss your supported options and what must be checked on-site.

Why cutting and programming are different.

Your key blade has a physical pattern. A transponder or smart fob also carries an electronic identity the car expects to see. Toyota’s explanation below makes that distinction clear. Your replacement must suit both sides of the job. Do not assume a look-alike fob will work. Ask about compatibility before buying a part, and have your authority to use the vehicle ready for the visit.

What should your quote include?

You should know whether the quoted work covers the blade, fob, programming and testing. Ask how your remaining keys will be handled and whether lost-key access can be removed on your vehicle. At the handover, test the functions you normally use, including the remote and engine start. Discuss a spare while the key type is known. Keep your key details in a place that does not expose your vehicle to unwanted access.

By the numbers

Good information.
Stronger decisions.

Your security plan starts with good news. Burglary has fallen for decades. The FBI reports that the US burglary rate reported to police fell from 731.7 per 100,000 people in 2006 to 193.6 in 2025, about 74% lower (calc). You can focus on the doors, keys and daily habits within your control.

Your vehicle has a different risk picture. NICB reports that US vehicle thefts fell 17% in 2024. The rates below come from NICB alone. They do not measure your chance of a lockout or the price of a replacement key.

Your cut blade and electronic code do different jobs. Toyota explains that the engine starts only when the key or Smart Key fob code matches the immobilizer. You need the correct compatible key and programming, not just a blade that turns.
